Lee Ann Bartolini, Ph.D.

Dr. LeeAnn Bartolini, professor of psychology and co-chair of Dominican University of California’s Psychology Department, is one of Dominican’s outstanding educators. Since joining the faculty in 1985, Dr. Bartolini has helped to build a strong and successful psychology program, develop new curricula, and mentor hundreds of students as they prepare for graduate school.

Dr. Bartolini’s impact at Dominican extends beyond the Psychology Department. She directed Dominican’s Honors Program from 1995-2001. In 2003 she co-founded the Women and Gender Studies program in order to offer a framework through which students examine gender as it intersects with race, ethnicity, class and sexuality. Dr. Bartolini has led numerous women’s focused events on campus over the years. In 2001, she helped to bring the initial Vagina Monologue Production to campus, a move that led to a greater awareness of women’s issues on campus.

Dr. Bartolini enjoys encouraging students to look beyond American walls. In 1998, she organized the first Dominican student travel course to Paris. Since then she has led fourteen travel courses to Paris, London, Italy, Greece, India, Thailand, Vietnam and Egypt. In 2012, Dr. Bartolini and Sister Carla Kovak, O.P., accompanied nine Dominican students to Uganda, bringing water chlorinators with them and delivering educational workshops to more than 600 people.

In 2003 Dr. Bartolini was voted Dominican’s Teacher of the Year. She has presented papers at international conferences in Hong Kong and Prague, and has published a number of articles with colleagues on the Internationalization of Psychology.

A Marin native, Dr. Bartolini attended Mt. Carmel School in Mill Valley, Marin Catholic and Dominican College of San Rafael, where she received two bachelor’s degrees, one in Psychology and the other in Art History.

Over the years she has served on a number of Boards and Committees in Marin, including the Marin Mental Health Board, Buckelew Programs, Marin County Psychological Association, Marin Organizing Committee, and for ten years has been a member and past-chair of the Center for Domestic Peace (home of Marin Abused Women’s Services). She is passionate about ending the problem of domestic violence in our community and was the catalyst behind the Personal Peace Agreement.

Dr. Bartolini also has volunteered with the International Rescue Committee, sponsoring refugees from the Balkan War and in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. For the past thirteen years, she has participated in Jail ministry with the Dominican Sisters, first in Stockton and then at the Marin County Jail. A licensed psychologist, Dr. Bartolini has maintained a private practice in Mill Valley since 1985.
