YWCA San Francisco & Marin welcomed fifty community members for an engaging event, Stand Against Racism: Model Making and Breaking last night at the Chinese Historical Society of America.

“Today our association recommits itself publicly to the work of eliminating racism by hosting our first community Stand Against Racism event. We are honored to lift up the voices of some of our fellow community advocates,” said YWCA San Francisco & Marin Executive Director, Jane Winter. “We want to engage in the racial justice conversation by creating space for the voices of those already doing the work.”

YWCA San Francisco and Marin sees raising the minimum wage as directly connected to its mission to eliminate racism and empower women, and the organization contributed actively to the coalition campaigns that brought this victory for low-income workers. Now on track for a historic minimum wage increase, low-wage workers in California are majority women and nearly three-fourths people of color, making fair wages an essential step towards equity and addressing California’s highest-in-the-nation wealth and income gaps.
