Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
Are you 55 or older with limited resources and looking for a way to re-enter the workforce and find employment? The Marin Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides a worksite training opportunity for older women and men who meet program guidelines, with the goal of providing short-term training that will lead to a paid job.
"I started in the program when I was 85 working in West Marin, and after a few years, I was hired into a paid position at my agency."
Program Guidelines
- The program targets very-low income job seekers who live in Marin County and have barriers to employment. The Federal grant guidelines give priority to participants who are veterans, spouses of veterans, those over 65, minorities, and those with limited English and/or literacy.
- Participants have "work and learn" assignments at non-profit agencies in Marin that involve being on-site 15-20 hours per week and getting tailored training.
- SCSEP participants receive the California minimum wage ($8.00) as a stipend for the 15-20 hours they are on-site and get supervision and training from their on-site supervisor.
- Participants spend their other 20 hours per week looking for employment and getting additional training in skills that will help them find and keep paid employment.
- The program has 9 placements and if there are no openings, we keep a wait list of interested participants. Participants need to complete required paperwork and document their income.
